The Good Side of Learning in English

Studying a foreign language is actually a good thing to do since childhood. However, it is contrary to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Culture that it will remove it.

Doctor of Applied Linguistics of Unika Atma Jaya Nany Setyono Kurnia revealed that government measures incorporate English lessons into the curriculum of elementary school (SD) can be considered good.

"Because, okay for someone to learn foreign languages, especially English, in view of its function as a lingua franca (language of the world)," said Nany while talking with Okezone, Thursday (10/11/2012).

According to Nany, many studies show, someone who controls more than one language will get more profit. The ability to speak, he said, is the provision which is very beneficial for a person.

"But, it all depends on how he applies the foreign language skills," he added.

It will be a problem is, says Nany, if the material of English is not taught well by the teacher. Nany rate, if the delivery is good, then it will not be a problem.

"But if the teacher delivering good baseball, students will be exposed to something other than English that well," he added.

As reported earlier, the government plans to abolish subjects in English for the SD. This policy discourse following the incorporation of teaching science and social studies in the elementary school curriculum.
